About Our Youngstock

All foals born at Astek Stud are handled from birth, taught to "give to pressure", to lead and have their feet picked up. We undertake a regular worming programme from 7 days old and cover and grain feed them after weaning. This handling greatly assists us during our everday stud routine, effectively minimising accidents and stress to the point where injuries are rare, and gains trust and respect from our youngstock.

Some of these young horses may be for sale so please enquire if you are interested. We also usually retain several foals born each season with intentions to produce them under saddle before offering them for sale at a later date.
Inspection of youngstock is available anytime by appointment. Further photos, DVD/Video footage available on request.

A bay colt with white blaze and socks, this gorgeous boy has arrived to the world just as his own beautiful full sister "Astek Ghisella" is setting the dressage scene on fire with her excting talent. A very modern, athletic, uphill type with terrific movement and a beautiful nature, he has natural class about him. His imported dam is by "Aachen" who is by the German Hanoverian Sire of the Century "Argentinus" and needs no introduction as a famous sire of multi-talented top level progeny. This colt has a very strong well conformed body with an upstanding front end and a commanding aura of presence. His dam is bred from the world-wide sought after Holsteiner "C" line with her close relatives including the talented Cordeur (an exciting showjumper before his untimely death) and the extremely popular German showjumping stallion Contender, all hailing back to the incredible stallion Cor de la Bryere. This colt's type and breeding suggest an exciting future jumping career, though the quality and power of his movement could also lend him to dressage performance.

This filly has a very impressive front end and neck set with a lovely femenine face. Her real wow factor movement in testiment to the generations of superb dressage bloodlines from which she hails. Gwhinne's imported dam is by a German Premium Class 1 licensed stallion (by Rubenstein) and out of an Elite classified Hanoverian mare, with her grand-dam being a German State Premium mare. This truely gorgeous foal is the result of outstanding international bloodlines coming together to produce a filly in a league of her own. Tall, elegant, modern and athletic with a very pretty feminine head, excellent upstanding conformation and scope to burn, she also holds the trademark white markings of a snip and socks that are becoming so well known amongst many of Gym Bello's progeny. Her imported dam is by super sire Flemmingh out of a "Sire of the Century" Weltmeyer mare and has very big, powerful movement and a lovely trainable nature. A handsome chocolate brown colt with a small star and short white socks, this boy's pedigree, movement, conformation and temperament all suggest future dressage stardom. He's very trainable and social and moves with big loose strides and great knee action and elevation. His sire Quaterback is making a huge impact in Germany thanks to his truely outstanding movement and the superior quality of his first foal crops which have topped Elite foal sales in Germany. Quaterback was the Bundeschampionat division for 3 year old Stallions in 2006, with scores of: Trot; 9.5, Canter: 10, Walk 7.5, Conformation: 9.5, Overall Impression: 9.5. A full brother to "Astek Galalee" show champion (sold to Southland), "Astek Genias" (exported USA, Champion Showhunter Los Angeles 2010), "Astek Gonzales" (currently retained by stud) and the stunning "Astek Georgia" (sold to Northland). 3/4 brother to Astek Gymnast - National Level 2 Dressage Champion, National Young Dressage Horse and National Level 2 Musical Freestyle Champion 2009/10. He also has very elevated, quality movement with great hock action. Vienna SL showed great technique for jumping with National titles to her credit - combined with Gym Bello's dominant performance blood, this boy could definately become a serious contender in the jumping or eventing disciplines.

She has an adorable, highly trainable temperament and her movement is also very athletic with natural suspension and bouncy hock action. Gymbya is a full sister to Supreme Champion filly "Astek Gianni" and the quality gelding "Astek Giovanni". This cross is proving to be a match made in heaven!! At her first show outing in November 2007 at the NZWHA Warmblood Championship Show, Gymbya lived up to our expectations by winning: - 1st Yearling Filly, and - 4th Best Movement Up To 3 Years. Second show outing, Canterbury Horse & Pony Breeders Feb 2008, we unfortunately missed the yearling class but Gymbya gained: - 3rd Best Movement Up To 3 Years - 1st Best Progeny Group, alongside Astek Ghisella (this class was for 2 progeny sired by the same stallion). He has shown a lovely trainable, inquisitive, playful temperament right from the start and has beautiful cadenced movement with a huge walk and effortless moment of suspension in trot. Rantani is a full sister to the very sporty "Astek Radiance", and half sister to stunning young dressage horse "Astek Gymahl" (renamed Astek Ginsling). She is full of character and loves to do things. Rantani is going to be a talented prospect for both performance and breeding, she has enthusiasm to burn! A tall dark and very very handsome dark brown gelding with striking markings of 3 socks and a big star, stripe and snip. His temperament is very calm, playful and intelligent. His eyecatching movement shows elevation, athleticism and power in all three paces, combined with great elasticity and talent for jumping as well. His dam is currently the highest classified Warmblood mare in New Zealand. His equally stunning full sister has been exported to the USA where she is very much admired and already a Champion showhunter. Rocky has well balanced, correct conformation with good bone and a gorgeous face with big eyes. Lovely round, balanced movement with plenty of action, like his parents we expect him to be a bold and clever jumper too. Rocky is growing out very nicely and going to be an eyecatching and fun allround performance horse when he grows up. A great allround sportsman!

His dam-sire has produced several talented Advanced international eventers including NZ representatives "Silence" and "Snip" - Gandalf has all of the attributes to follow in their footsteps! He has shown a very calm, unflappable temperament right from the moment he was born. His springy, loose, ground covering movement with an enormous overtrack in walk and scopey canter/gallop, plus great athleticism and attitude in the free-jumping lane, combine with white markings of a star, small snip, small front sock and hind sock to very nicely finish things off. Dark brown with a star and small hind sock, she has very nicely balanced, correct conformation with refinement, combined with an alert yet gentle expression, a friendly, sensible nature and is very light on her feet. Being out of a well performed showjumping mare and with her grandfather as Ramiro Z, she's all set to be a fun eventing, dressage or jumping performer! News Update, Jan 2011: Remi has recently arrived in the North Island at Chester Farm where she is continuing her training and early competition career with Diana and Greg and is available for sale. Remi is very rideable and sensible, she's continuing to mature into a lovely young mare who could suit any discipline, especially dressage or eventing.

Gala (Han) Dam Sire: Graf Landau (Han) Born: 5th November 2003 Mature approx: 17hh Colour: Bay Although not bred here at Astek Stud, Ravenna was imported as a weanling from Australia and has tremendous dressage bloodlines; her beautiful sire 'Riverdance', (by the famous Rubinstein) was a Premium Stallion at his Performance Test scoring 10 for temperament, while her dam 'Gala' was awarded Premium Mare, won her Mare Performance Test and was granted Elite Mare status, the first one in the Australian Hanoverian Society as judged by Manfred Lopp. Her grand-dam was also a German State Premium Mare, providing this filly with wonderful depth of bloodlines. Ravenna has huge, powerful, cadenced movement and alot of character. Indeed a top dressage performance and breeding prospect. She is being retained by the stud at for breeding and performance.

Galandria's pedigree feature some of the world's very best Hanoverian performance bloodlines. She has beautiful movement with 3 cadenced elastic paces, a highly intelligent trainable temperament, combined with super conformation and talented natural jumping ability with very smart technique. In November 2005 she won "2yo Colt, Gelding or Filly" class and won "Best Paced up to 3 Years" class at her first outing, the NZWHA Warmblood show. In August 2006, Galandria passed her Hanoverian mare classification with excellent marks of 8s and 9s and an overall score of 8, achieving Premium status. Galandria is now 4 years old and progressing well under saddle - schooling nicely on the flat and over small jumps. She is extremely unflappable in new situations. An excellent show hunter type prospect for a competitive rider, with wonderful bloodlines and quality for future breeding as well.
