Ramirez is a magnificent
and superbly bred imported Holsteiner stallion with huge presence, from
the famous Holsteiner "R" sire line that is particularly well
known for its exceptional jumping abilities.
Ramirez was bred in Germany
and had begun a very promising competition career in both dressage and
showjumping before a very unfortunate stable injury forced his early
retirement. As a dressage horse he scored 9s and 10s for paces with
Dr Ense, and as a jumper he showed a great natural bascule with tremendous
power, extremely careful technique and keen attitude.

His
legendary licensed Holsteiner sire "Ramiro Z" has been titled
"Stallion of the Century" and "King of Sires".
He has ranked #1 in the world as the sire of jumping horses in the World
Breeding Federation for Sport Horses Index and even today, years after
his death, is still consistently rated among the World's Top 10 Sporthorse
Sires for outstanding breeding and offspring performance! He has produced
over 50 licensed stallions among whom include Rabino, Robin Z II, the
Swedish Stallion Robin Z I and Ramses. He has produced numerous international
and European champions in both Grand Prix dressage and Advanced showjumping
(including Ratina Z - ridden by Ludgar Beerbaum and described as the
best horse in the world after Gold and Silver Olympic and World Cup
performances), as well as many superb stallion sons and premium broodmares.
Ramiro Z was a very talented performer in his own right, winning many
international Grand Prix classes under Fritz Ligges. He also won many
Nations Cups and was famous for his Puissance results (jumping over
2.2 metres!).
Ramirez's dam Riletta
is by Roberto and
she also showjumped successfully at advanced "S" class level
(A Grade). This is the
female family of many well performed horses, including champion showjumper
and successful sire Corrado (by Cor de la Bryere) ridden by Frankie
Sloothaak.

Ramirez has
tremendous presence - he is a true stallion in every sense of the word
that really captures attention and takes your breath away. He has a
magnificent body, a beautiful head and expression, medium sized bone
and much power and athleticsm, well suited to crossing over both Thoroughbred
and warmblood mares. He has a very kind, alert, willing character and
is a highly intelligent yet sensitive horse who is eager to please and
loves to do things.
His movement is very uphill and elastic with an especially well balanced
big round canter, and he loves to jump. Ramirez is indeed very much
the image of his own famous sire, Ramiro Z!
On
arrival to New Zealand Ramirez stood semi-privately at stud with John
Cottle (International and Grand Prix showjumping rider and trainer).
Since beginning his stud career, Ramirez has been proving his potential
as a sire by producing classy purpose-bred sporthorse types.
His progeny
have real "X-Factor" - very classy individuals with excellent
correct conformation and real "look at me" presence. Because
of this, his offspring have won many Championships in the show ring,
with ridden performances seeing his progeny competing with success at
World Cup level showjumping, Advanced Eventing and Advanced Dressage
proving him to be a sire of talented perfomers.

Ramirez produces
foals with rich colours and markings - his is a dominant bay producer
and will not ever produce a chestnut foal. His progeny are well known
for their uphill, well balanced movement while also being talented,
careful jumpers - as per all of the Holsteiner "R" line horses,
they really do not like to touch a rail. While this pedigree line can
produce quite sensitive horses, crossed with the right mare Ramirez
adds a real carefulness, sharpness and powerful one on one type of bond
with their riders that can be unbeatable for higher level dressage or
jumping performance.
As his progeny have matured in recent years, many of them are also now
showing up in eventing (particularly the Thoroughbred crosses) being
hailed by riders and coaches alike for their bold eventing performances
and showing great potential and results including Champion Young Event
Horse titles, Best Performed Mare awards and Young Rider Eventing Championships
to their credit.

Despite serving
smaller mare numbers in his first few seasons at stud simply because
he was kept semi-private and not strongly promoted, his older progeny
are often talked about by riders, judges and trainers for their star
quality and ability - we regularly hear the same words repeated by owners
of his progeny... that these are once in a lifetime horses!
Also like
his own sire Ramiro Z, who in later life found a new strength via his
daughters who are now highly prized by many of the top breeding studs
around the world seeing Ramiro Z become a very important broodmare sire,
Ramirez too is becoming well known for this same attribute with his
daughters also producing some outstanding offspring for New Zealand
breeders when crossed with other quality stallions.
Ramiro Z can be found in the close up dam-line of many top performance
horses and licensed stallions (such as the exceptional German Dressage
stallion "Sandro Hit" and Premium showjumping stallion "Casiro"
to name just two), his influence prized for adding great knee and hock
action for dressage and enormous power and bascule for jumping.

Ramirez has lots of
power, scope and bold attitude for jumping.
(Note: these two photos were taken from video footage hence the low
quality)
Ramirez stood at Astek
Stud for the first time in 2004. We love the real character, strong
conformation, correctness and classic quality that Ramirez produces
in his foals.
Under saddle his young progeny have continued to fulfill our expectations,
bringing forward their excellent work ethic, character and natural talent
to training..... these horses continue to impress us more and more as
we work with them!
Many people with older
progeny are breeding back to Ramirez again as they mature and find they
have quite a special horse in their hands - great testiment to his offspring.
We believe this
stallion is a huge asset to New Zealand sporthorse breeding, not only
for his own progeny performances but also for future NZ Warmblood generations
via his daughters and their world famous bloodlines.
