"Voltaire II" ridden by Kallista
Field
Voltaire II has a very
attractive refined head with excellent correct, leggy, athletic conformation,
eyecatching white markings and medium sized bone. He is an outstanding
natured stallion - extremely kind, calm, playful, intelligent and affectionate!
His movement is elevated and bouncy with lovely natural spring and scope
including a big ground covering canter. He also displays excellent effortless
jumping technique with a fantastic attitude to jumping - just like his
famous relatives! His obvious athleticism and scope, beautiful elegant
looks, intelligent characters and smart jumping technique are all being
passed onto his progeny. He offers warmblood power and scope yet with
refinement and elegance.

Although a stallion himself
can be very impressive, it is how he transmits his genes that will mark
his success as a sire. Again, Voltaire II greatly impresses with the
international bloodlines behind him and, with his own progeny now well
underway in their performance careers, it is becoming very clear that
he has what it takes to produce the same quality attributes of his famous
forefathers as well!
Voltaire II has exceptional
bloodlines, with both his famous sire "Voltaire" and equally
famous dam-sire "Nimmerdor" having become world acclaimed
for their terrific impact on sport horse performance world wide. His
pedigree also contains the superior sires Furioso II (Han), Gotthard
(Han), Farn (Holst/KWPN) and the highly influential Thoroughbred sires
Furioso, Precipitation and Fairway.
Voltaire II's sire "Voltaire"
(see photos below) was approved KWPN (Dutch Warmblood), Hanoverian,
Selle Francais and Oldenburg. He jumped 1.50m courses as an 8 year old
with a great deal of success. He showed his prowess in international
jumping in 1988 in Calgary, Stockholm, Lanaken, Helsinki, Wiesbaden
and Wembly and in 1989 he brought his showjumping career to a successful
end by winning the Grand Prix of Berlin.

Voltaire stands very
high on the index for both jumping and dressage. Each year so far a
son of Voltaire has been approved for breeding in the Netherlands: Olympic
Concorde, Damocles, Equador, Farmer, Gershwin and Haarlem to name just
a few. In Germany Voltaire sons were approved, along with the stallions
Electro in Sweeden and Forever in Belgium. Many offspring of Voltaire
have been awarded high premiums and, examplified by Hallo Hallo, Fantast,
Dante, Vivaldi, Especiale, Electra, Etaire, Don and Concorde, are jumping
1.40m/1.50m courses.
It is therefore no surprise that Voltaire received the sought after
'keur' predicate.
Voltaire II's dam-sire
"Nimmerdor" shone during the jumping phase of his performance
test in 1975. 'Preferent' Nimerdor went on to be ridden at international
level by Albert Voorn, with whom he jumped various World Cups and made
impressive appearances at several important international competitions.
Nimmerdor was invited to go to Los Angeles Olympic Games, but the owners
declined, as they considered it more important at the time that he fully
devoted himself to his breeding activities.

Nimmerdor's enourmous
influence on breeding is not only felt in the Netherlands but also in
many countries abroard. He has sired more than thirty approved stallions
all over the world and has many successful grand-sons as well, including
the likes of Himmerdor, Heartbreaker, Ahorn, Goodtimes, Wellington and
more. When Nimmerdor was withdrawn from the sport, his children were
already continuing the great family tradition. In 2000, Nimmerdor was
elected 'The Stallion of the 20th Century' in the Netherlands.
The Voltaire / Nimmerdor
cross was quickly recognised by Dutch breeders to be an extremely sucessful
mating, with the great character and extreme carefulness of Voltaire
combining very well with the boldness of Nimmerdor. At the moment, approximately
25% of the top 150 Dutch jumping horses are out of Nimmerdor mares.
Voltaire II's own progeny
already hold National titles in all four disciplines of Dressage, Showjumping,
Eventing and Show Hunter, with many progeny also Supreme Champions in
the show ring, plus talented progeny exported overseas.
