Ramirez
is a magnificent and superbly bred imported Holsteiner stallion with
huge presence, from the famous "R" sire line that is particularly
well known for its exceptional jumping abilities.
Ramirez was bred in Germany
and had begun a very promising competition career in both dressage and
showjumping before a stable injury forced his early retirement. As a
dressage horse he scored 9's and 10's for paces with Dr Ense, and as
a jumper he showed tremendous scope, very keen attitude with a powerful
bascule and sharp technique.

Ramirez at Astek Stud -
April 2006 - 15 years old
His
legendary sire Ramiro Z has been titled "Stallion of the Century"
and "King of Sires". He has produced numerous international
and European champions in both Grand Prix dressage and Advanced showjumping
(including Ratina Z - described as the best horse in the world after
Gold and Silver Olympic and World Cup performances), as well as many
superb stallion sons and premium broodmares. Ramiro Z was a very talented
performer in his own right, winning Nations Cups, Puissance (jumping
over 2.2 metres!) and international Grand Prix. He has ranked Number
One and is consistently rated among the World's Top 10 Sporthorse Sires
for outstanding breeding and offspring performance!
Ramirez's dam Riletta
is by Roberto and
she also showjumped successfully at advanced "S" class level
(A Grade). This is the
female family of many well performed horses, including champion showjumper
and successful sire Corrado (by Cor de la Bryere) ridden by Frankie
Sloothaak.
Ramirez has
tremendous presence, a magnificent body, a very beautiful head and expression,
medium sized bone and much power and athleticsm, well suited to crossing
over both Thoroughbred and warmblood mares. He has a superb kind, alert,
willing character and is a very intelligent, sensitive horse who loves
to do things. His movement is uphill and elastic with an especially
well balanced canter, and he has super clean jumping technique showing
great power and scope. Ramirez is indeed the image of his own sire,
Ramiro Z!

Ramirez at Astek Stud -
April 2006
On
arrival to New Zealand Ramirez stood semi-privately at stud with John
Cottle (International and Grand Prix showjumping rider and trainer).
Since beginning his stud career, Ramirez has been proving his potential
as a sire by producing classy purpose-bred sporthorse types who are
winning many Champions in hand, with the oldest now making their competitive
debuts undersaddle and receiving some super comments and results. This
stallion is producing foals with upstanding, very correct conformation
and rich colours and markings. (He will not produce a chestnut foal.)
His progeny have big uphill, well balanced movement and athleticism,
very talented jumping technique with great scope and natural inclination
for jumping and highly intelligent, sensitive yet extremely sensible
temperaments that are superbly suited to top dressage and showjumping
careers, while also being very correct, attractive "look at me"
types with the presence to make excellent show performers. Some of his
progeny are also now taking to eventing (especially the TB crosses,
and showing great potential).
Despite serving
smaller mare numbers in his first few seasons at stud simply because
he was kept semi-private and not strongly promoted, his older progeny
are already being talked about by top riders, judges and trainers right
around the country for their star quality and true ability.
We are regularly hearing the same words repeated by owners of his progeny
- that these are once in a lifetime horses!

Ramirez has heaps of
scope, power and bold attitude for jumping. July 2004
(Note: these two photos were taken from video footage hence the low
quality)
Ramirez stood at Astek
Stud for the first time in 2004 and, with his progeny successes, his
popularity as a sire is continually increasing. Many people with older
progeny are breeding back to Ramirez again and again - great testiment
to his offspring!
We believe this
stallion is a huge asset to New Zealand sporthorse breeding with his
highly influential bloodlines and own very classy attributes, and we're
very excited about the future as his youngstock continue to make their
competitive debuts.
Our first Astek foals
by Ramirez arrived in the 2005 season and we are very pleased with their
correctness, powerful forward balanced movement (his progeny generally
have a very good walk, big round elevated trot and an extremely good
uphill canter), natural inclination and ability for jumping, and responsive,
character filled temperaments. Because our own Astek bred progeny are
still only young, we have bought in several older progeny for ridden
work - we are EXTREMELY impressed by their obvious natural talent and
excellent attitudes to training..... these horses continue to impress
us more and more as we work with them!
Service bookings are now
open for the 2007 season. We
