We place much importance on the selection of mares and our breeding programme involves selecting excellent temperaments, conformation, movement, jumping ability, bloodlines and performance ability to compliment our own stallions, or to suit proven or promising outside stallions.
We firmly believe that as breeders the easiest way for us to stand out and produce consistently good youngstock is by our focus on using high quality mares.

Mares and foals at Astek StudOur broodmare team incorporates both Warmblood and Thoroughbred bloodlines, with New Zealand Thoroughbreds being reknown throughout the world for their classic type, sound conformation and stamina orientated bloodlines - the perfect type for crossing to modern Warmblood sires to produce a highly versatile, responsive and scopey allrounder.
Our Warmblood mares include top performance bloodlines and allow us to produce Warmblood stock of excellent quality - strongly conformed types with great movement and plenty of natural power.

Astek mares are classified with various associations and studbooks to ensure quality is kept high, enabling us to produce naturally talented, purpose bred performance horses for all disciplines.
